Rules of Composition Photo Assignment

Turn in on Teams by Thursday August 29th.

Objective: To review and then apply the rules of composition to your photography! To explore the ways in which to capture the world around you with either posed, candid, or intentional photos.

  1. For this assignment you will choose 5 rules of composition to focus on. You can pick the rules of composition from this PowerPoint: Rules-of-Composition
  2. For each rule you select, you will need to submit 10 edited photos on your assignment page. (That’s 50 photos total!!)
  3. Each set of 10 photos should be a separate gallery in the same blog post.
  4. Provide the rule above each gallery so we know which rule each gallery represents. Set your gallery settings: media file, 5 columns, thumbnail size. No captions needed.
  5. Think about how you can incorporate a variety of posed, candid, and intentional photos.

  • Taking volunteers to share out some critiques with the class. 🙂
  • Camera Angles PowerPoint
  • Video: Jerry Business- Little Toys, Big World

Camera Angles Blog Assignment

Create a new post to explain to your audience what you just learned. Try to be engaging in how you present the information. 🙂 As always, check your spelling and grammar.

Blog post must include:

  • Definitions from slide 2 of the PPT (PowerPoint).
  • Explanation of the 7 camera angles: how to achieve that angle + their purpose/effect.
  • Add a PHOTO EXAMPLE of each (you can use photos you find online or any of your own that you already have saved). You can either save photos found online as jpg files to your desktop by right clicking on an image and using “save as…” OR, use the snipping tool on your computer to save screenshots as jpg or png files. The photos should be added individually after each camera angle explanation.
  • Let your audience know what you think of these angles…have you used them all before? Which, if any, have you never tried?

Thurs. 8/15/24: Smartphone Photography Project-Shooting in B&W

Today’s Agenda:

Smartphone Photography Project: Shooting in B&W

We will go outside together as a class to photograph for this project. There are three parts to this project: shooting, blog post, share on gallery wall.

Part I

Set your smartphone camera app to a black and white filter (see image from yesterday’s post).

Select one other smartphone photography tip from your previous assignment.  Keep this tip in mind but feel free to explore beyond it.

Take your time composing your shots. Consider other perspectives and angles.

Take at least 10 different photos. (Of course you can take more!)

Upon our return to our classroom, upload your photos to your OneDrive account, import with a charger cable, or email them to yourself.

Part II

Choose the best 5 photos to post on your blog AS A GALLERY (see screenshots below).  Title it the same as my title above, “Smartphone Photography Project: Shooting in B&W”.

Add a reflection paragraph telling me how you felt about shooting in this manner + which was your favorite photo that you captured and why.

Publish, view your post, copy the link, and attach in Teams.

Part III

Select your best photo to share with the class on this Padlet “galley wall”:

https://padlet.com/delasa/b-w-smartphone-photography-4b6q93uno50bhwp7

Click plus sign (+) circle icon on the bottom right.

Include your first name, last initial AND your class period in the subject.

Use the upload icon (first icon) to add your photo.

Click Publish. Yay!

-IF you have completed everything, you may go outside for 15 minutes today to photograph using your smartphone, using the BLACK AND WHITE filter.

-Revisit your summary of the 13 Smartphone Photography Tips Video to practice one other tip while photographing in B&W mode. Decide which tip before you head out!

-You will have to check out a photo pass, and you can only wander in this immediate quad area (G/C Quad-upstairs and downstairs). YOU MAY NOT go near the restrooms or lunch quad!

-Take at least 5 photos.

-Upload to your OneDrive app on your phone or via your Internet browser on your phone (reception is spotty, you may need to do this outside the classroom door). Or, if you have your charger cable, you can try to import directly to your computer.
