10 Photo Essay Tips

  1. The first photo essay tip is to find a topic that can be anything but have deeper meaning to it.
  2. The second tip is to do research on the subject, not on the computer but of the actual person itself. How do you want it to look to tie in with the topic?
  3. Do you want it to be meaningful in a funny way or an emotional way? Find the deeper story to it that actual makes it meaningful.
  4. We want the critic to have some type of connection with the photo whether it be emotional or just knowing what the photographer wanted.
  5. We want to plan our shots, we shouldn’t take a picture of the same setting more than once or the same thing at all for that matter.
  6. We should be open minded when it comes to what we want to shoot, it will not end up being what we originally wanted.
  7. Everything means something even if it is just a piece of blank paper, it could say a lot.
  8. Take as many shots as possible so you have a variety to choose from, and you’re not stuck with one shot that you don’t like.
  9. Don’t be afraid to ask someone’s opinion, they will be viewing your photo just like everyone else might as well make sure it looks nice to different people and not just your perspective.
  10. Make your point known. Don’t be afraid to hurt peoples feelings, make the point as obvious as possible.
