For my Authentic Portrait I chose to capture my Dad, Jose Marquez. As an individual, he is so genuine and kind to others, he’s a welcoming person. He put his family first and is an amazing Dad and Abuelito to my sister’s kids. As a child, he had to leave school at a very young age to help support his family but growing up, he always helped me with my math homework, even once I surpassed the grade he went up to.

I chose to honor my Apa because he is extremely hard working. He usually gets home later in the day so I was happy he got home early this day so I could capture him with the sunlight. I love him very much and I was ecstatic that I could take authentic photos of him.

I chose my grandpa Rick for these portraits because I realize that he doesn’t get noticed enough for all the things he does for my family. Don’t get me wrong my family and I love him but he is always working and tries his best to be able to spend time with family but I know sometimes he just can’t. So I decided to do this to help let him know that its okay to miss out sometimes, that I see his sacrifices. I tried to choose ones where he was smiling because he is a very serious person, I love his smile, to me it takes away all his hurt from the past.

No matter what, my grandpa has always been there for my family even when he isn’t. He shows me how a man is suppose to treat a woman. The way he cares for my sick grandma is unbelievable considering his working hours. He is so calm, always and he has never yelled at me or my brothers. I truly adore my grandpa, he can never be replaced. I want to honor him well I still can, while he is still here.

1. In the photo, one can see a young poodle mix breed with curly light brown fur and medium brown ears. The dog is laying in a backyard on grass.
2. The photographer used a very low depth of field because anything past the dog blurs out. Simplicity is used so the focus is left upon the dog and leaving space is used since there is space left around the dog’s face in the photo. The lighting used was open lighting because the light within the photo is consistent.
3. I think the photo symbolizes how a dog really can be a human’s best friend. This photo portrays how attentive dogs can be and how you can lay with they and they’ll listen because the dog locks eyes with the viewer.
4. The photo is successful because the focus is clearly upon the dog due to the low depth of field. I personally favor pictures with low depths of field so that caught my attention, and of course the precious dog caught my eye. The lighting in the photo also makes it successful.

1. The photo is of magazines and Shakespeare’s books stacked up on the floor with a plant at the very top of the books inside a white pot and beside it a vintage circular lunch box from the Beatles with the colors red, yellow, blue, green and white.
2. It had a great depth of field showing the plain wall clearly. Some rules of composition were that there was an even amount of objects on both sides with similar colors as each other. The lighting was very nice and nice and calm; as if it was inside, not at all over exposed or under exposed.
3. I think the photo suggests that the past should not be forgotten because everything in this photo is old school, the books that Shakespeare wrote, the Beatles lunchbox and all the magazines. I think I would say that the story was of a high school girl who has OCD set her books on the floor after a long day at school and that she loved how everything looked so she wanted to capture the moment to see who else would agree.
4. The things that make this photo successful are the balanced subjects, the vibrant color, the changing shapes, and the plain background. The uniqueness of the photo really stands out to me.
