Photo Cropping

I cropped this photo to bring the attention closer to her face. I left space in the direction she was looking towards and aligned her eyes with the rule of thirds.

Lens and Portraits

28 mm

55mm

85mm

200mm

I like how my portraits came out. The lenses I liked the most were the 85mm and the 200mm. The 28mm created a harsh distortion with my subject and the 55mm just didn’t capture him the way I would like for a portrait photo. in my photos there really is no visibility of a background but I know that the higher the mm the closer the background appears.

Photo Cropping

I cropped out the pole in order to center the photo.

I cropped out the window because it was just random and I left his head there so I don’t amputate him.

I cropped out the ledge because it was too long same thing with the F building and the sky.

I cropped out the person to his left because they were kind of in the way of the picture and I left space on his right.

I cropped out the bright yellow poster because I wanted the photo to be more simple and not have so much going on.

I cropped out the little circle and made the picture go more closer to me rather than so much space.i

I cropped out the wall and a little bit above her elbow because then it would have seemed amputated.

I cropped out the sky because it was just a white blob and I made the ceiling the main backdrop.

I cropped the background out because there was too much space around him but I like trees so I left that one there.

I cropped out the guy’s hair and some of the D building because I wanted to just focus on the sky.

Lenses and Portraits

I think one foot away makes my subject look really good only because it makes her feel comfortable as long as she has the self confidence. the farthest that made it have distortion I would say is three feet. I enjoyed the 28 lenses because I feel like I didn’t have to move as much and it made my model look really good. I noticed that my depth of field was really distorted because they all came out clear but one.

Chris Orwig

This photo, taken by Chris Orwig, stood out to me because I like the placement of everything in the photo. I enjoy how the man isn’t right in the middle with his board. The photo is very simple and it being in black and white is easy on the eyes. Also, since it’s black and white, there is high contrast in the photo which makes the subject stand out even more.

I enjoy how you cannot see the whole background clearly but you still know what it is. You can see the sand but not really see the ocean, which highlights the subject nicely. I chose this picture because I enjoy how the main focus is on the surfer at first and then it goes to his board. I believe this may display backlight because it appears to me that the sun is shinning bright in the background above his board.

Chris Orwig

I really love this picture simply because you can tell that this man has been through something. Not because of his eyepatch but just because of the expression he gives on his face just helps you feel what he feels. He seems to feel tired, or maybe even hurt. Yet you can also feel his some what smirk he gives. He has this tone to his presence and it just illuminates the picture entirely.

The background looks good because with someone who has such character, you cant take away from that with this backdrop that has a bunch going on. In anyone’s portrait you don’t want to take away from their unique personality whether it shows in the picture or not. As a photographer we must try our best to capture the true roots of a person and their story.

Kitten Photography Tips

Some advice that you need for this photo shoot would be to be patient with the kitten and overall with your camera settings. Try not to use flash it could make the kitten be frighten and not want to be photographed anymore. For this shoot you need kind of a high shutter speed and higher ISO. The aperture in this photo shoot can be played around with but would be best in f/2.8 to f/5.6 that is the best range. When it comes to be time to chose a lens the best option would be a lens would be 85-130mm. Use different angles to photograph the kitten, but you mainly want to shoot at their eye level so the viewer feels and sees the personality of the kitten. Having treats could be an advantage because you could get their attention and get great pictures. Another things you can have are bells and cat toys so you can capture their attention if you do not have snacks. Use natural light that is the best lighting but if you need more you could add some. Also let the kitten get familiar with the equipment so they don’t get scared and feel comfortable with it.
