Authentic Portrait Review Assignment

In the Chris Orwig presentation, he discussed the 6 types of indirect lighting. They are Backlight, Dappled Light, Side Light, Open Shade, Window Light, and Garage Light.

Backlight is created when the subject is facing away from the sun, the light is behind the subject.

Dappled Light is created when light comes through trees, some shadows are also casted from the trees.

Side Light is created when the light is casted from the side.

Open Shade is created in the shadows of large buildings, trees, etc. but a light source still illuminated your subject.

Window Light is created when light comes through a window, making the light not too harsh.

Garage Light is created in doorways, warehouses, etc. and is when the subject is against a wall, or something in that category, creating a darker background, but the space is closed off. In front of them is an opening, like a garage door opening, which allows much light upon the subject to create a highlight.

We want subjects to feel re-centered for the portrait in order to get the most genuine photo of them possible. To re-center them we can ask them questions or get a convo started. By getting them to talk to us, we can create a more comfortable environment for the subject. We can also get the subject to move around, stretch, move their shoulders, and walk around to relax them. You can ask them to take deep breathes in an attempt to calm them. Lastly, close their eyes and capture the photo at the moment the subject opens their eyes for a honest photo.

Ways you can reduce and simplify the background of an authentic portrait include cropping out all distractions in the photo and using a low aperture in order to create a blur in the background to keep the focus on the subject.

This displays how one can crop out distractions to create a portrait.

This is a prime example of how having a shallow depth of field creates an overall better portrait.

Puddles

I think that it was very fun to take the picture. This was definitely one of the projects that I have had since I started photography but never had the time or the weather to accomplish it. I was hoping to capture more of the reflections and get the ripples of water falling in puddles. I think that overall my pictures could have used a bit more of my creativity but I like how they came out and just feels like a great accomplishment as a photographer. I hope that when it rains again I take the time to create another photo shoot like this.

Authenic Portriat Review

  1. There are six types of natural lighting in photography, side light, open shade, window light, backlight, dappled light, and garage light.

    2. Backlight photos is when the photographer can allow the light to go behind the main subject and shine somewhat into the camera.                            Dappled light is when there is only little spots of light shown on or near the main subject.                                                                                                      Garage light is when you lets say are in a class room and open the door to let some light come into the room to be visible on the main subject while the back is usually darker then the front.                                                                                                                                                                                          Window light is simply opening a window to allow light onto the main subject.                                                                                                                          Side light is when a photographer only lets light on one side of the subject.                                                                                                                                 Open shadow is when a photographer uses the natural shade from somewhere to take the photo.

    3. When taking a photo of someone, you want them to feel comfortable and relaxed, to be able to feel free. In photography we call this re-entering. We want the person to be re-centered so that it seems as if the person didn’t know they were in front of a camera. We don’t want them to fake a smile so we tell them four easy steps: Talk to them, Breathe, loosen up, and close your eyes.                                                                                   4. When reducing and simplifying a photo you can either crop it to get rid of something or you can take the main subject to a more simple looking area.

My 2018 Collage

My two favorite memories from 2017 were seeing The Buttertones and having karaoke nights with my friends.

Things I am grateful for are food and my friends.

A hard lesson I learned was to not trust people so easily which has created bad memories but most of my 2017 is filled with amazing memories.

Something I am proud of is that I’ve gotten much better at public speaking and presentations in.

Three places I want to go in 2018 include Amoeba Music, explore Long Beach, and go to Chick-fil-a because I’ve never been.

Something I would like to get better at is playing the piano and my patch making.

Two things I’m looking forward include my birthday and Christmas, which is why I put the lights on top(I used 3 different pics of lights and set them together).

Three new thingd I would like to try in 2018 are snowboarding, go kart racing, and sushi.

New Year

My three favorite memories from 2017 are my beach party from when I turned 16 , when I went to San Francisco and homecoming.

Three things I am grateful for are my family, friends and being able to get a new house.

One hard lesson I learned was to not let  my grades drop again because it was hard and stressful to get them back up.

I’m definitely proud of getting my basketball game up to where it should be and making captain.

Three places I want to go this year I would say are Mexico, Las Vegas, and back to San Francisco.

A few ways I can help others is to start being nicer to my little brothers and to start helping my mom out with her study habits for nursing school.

Something that I am always going to want to get better at will always be basketball because I know it can really help me set my future.

I’m looking forward to meeting my tia Renne’s baby and I hope to be driving in the near future.

Three new things I’m looking forward to doing this year are keeping up with my new room, I’m really looking forward to driving but I’m scared and being able to cook new recipes.
